Saturday Night Live UK launched on March 21 in London with Tina Fey as the inaugural host, marking the first British edition of the long-running U.S. sketch franchise.
The premiere aired on Sky in the UK and streamed on Peacock in the United States the following day.
The opening show featured a political cold open about Prime Minister Keir Starmer and U.S. President Donald Trump, a monologue with surprise guest appearances from Nicola Coughlan, Michael Cera and Graham Norton, and the debut of the British Weekend Update segment.
The episode also included sketches centered on British cultural references, including Princess Diana, David Attenborough, Paddington Bear and Prince Andrew.
Wet Leg performed as the first musical guest, playing âMangetoutâ and âCatch These Fists.â Early audience figures were solid for a subscription channel, with 226,000 live viewers in the UK and a strong social-media response.
Critics were mixed overall, but several praised the showâs energy, its new cast and Feyâs decision to let the ensemble take the spotlight.
The first season has been expanded to eight episodes, with Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Wolf Alice and Kasabian set for upcoming installments.
