The BBC has dismissed long‑time Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills after current management said it obtained “new information” that made termination necessary.
The corporation says Mills’ contracts were ended on Friday March 27; the move became public days later and prompted an all‑staff call on April 2 in which outgoing director‑general Tim Davie said the fresh material made the decision “very clear.” The Met Police confirmed a referral from December 2016 led to an investigation in which Mills was interviewed under caution in 2018; the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the case in 2019 for lack of evidence.
The BBC has said it was aware of the 2017 investigation but recently learned the alleged victim was under 16 and has also apologised for not pursuing a separate complaint about “inappropriate communications” reported in 2025.
Mills has said through lawyers he “fully cooperated” with the earlier inquiry and will make no further comment.
The corporation has moved Mills off other projects (Tyler West was named as a replacement on a BBC podcast/vodcast) while it examines what past executives knew and how the matter was handled internally.
