Buckingham Palace has unveiled a four-day U.S. state visit for King Charles III and Queen Camilla from April 27 to 30 that will include a private tea and meeting with President Donald Trump, a ceremonial White House welcome, a state dinner and a rare address to a joint meeting of Congress.
The trip ā timed to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence ā also includes visits to New York to meet 9/11 families and to Virginia before the King travels on to Bermuda.
The announcement comes as relations between Washington and London are strained by the U.S.-led attack on Iran and President Trumpās repeated public criticism of UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
Trump has suggested the UK-US trade deal ācan always be changedā and derided Starmer for not joining the conflict; Starmer has said he will ānot yieldā to pressure to involve the UK militarily.
Some British politicians urged cancelling the visit; Downing Street and Palace officials say the trip aims to reaffirm long-standing ties.
Buckingham Palace has ruled out meeting Jeffrey Epsteinās victims during the visit, citing legal risks.
