OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman filed a motion on April 15 in U.S. federal court in St.
Louis seeking dismissal of punitive damages claims in a civil lawsuit brought by his sister, Annie Altman, who accuses him of repeated sexual abuse between 1997 and 2006.
Altman argues Missouriās child sexual abuse statute does not authorize punitive damages and limits recoveries to ādamages for injury or illness,ā and says punitive awards are not available for conduct alleged to have occurred while he was a minor.
He renewed an earlier request to dismiss the suit in full.
Annie Altman has said the last acts of abuse occurred when Sam Altman was an adult; he denies the allegations.
He is countersuing for defamation and seeks nominal damages of $1, saying he wants a judicial finding the statements are false.
Lawyers for Annie Altman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Altman, 40, is a prominent figure in the AI industry and faces a separate April 27 trial in Elon Muskās lawsuit involving OpenAI.
