Former University of Alabama defensive lineman Luther Davis is expected to plead guilty later in April 2026 after federal prosecutors in Atlanta accused him and an associate, CJ Evins, of orchestrating a scheme that obtained at least 13 fraudulent loans totalling about $19,845,000.
A criminal information filed by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia alleges the pair impersonated current and former NFL players â including Michael Penix Jr., David Njoku and Xavier McKinney â to secure multiâmillion dollar loans from lenders such as Aliya Sports and All Pro Capital Funding, often brokered by Sure Sports.
According to prosecutors, the scheme ran from about May 2023 through October 2024 and involved creating companies with playerâlike names, opening bank accounts, fabricating emails and documents, producing fake IDs and attending virtual loan closings in disguise (using wigs, makeup and a durag). The filings cite two felony counts including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft; the criminal information indicates the defendants waived grand jury indictment and plan to enter pleas.
The athletes whose identities were used are not accused of wrongdoing.
