The U.S. Department of Stateâs May 2026 Visa Bulletin shows broadly stalled progress across familyâsponsored and employmentâbased green card categories, with only minimal movement after modest advances earlier in the year.
Highâdemand countries remain constrained by perâcountry caps, leaving long backlogs for India and China: for India, EBâ1 is at April 1, 2023; EBâ2 at July 15, 2014; and EBâ3 at November 15, 2013.
The bulletin singles out the EBâ5 (immigrant investor) unreserved category for India, where the Final Action Date is May 1, 2022, and warns that rising demand could force retrogression of cutoff dates or render the category temporarily unavailable if FY2026 annual limits are reached.
The update also notes that USCIS will use the stricter Final Action Dates chart for employmentâbased adjustment of status filings in May, limiting early filing opportunities.
Officials and immigration experts say reduced consular visa issuance earlier this year likely produced some artificial date movement, increasing the risk of a âboomerangâ backward shift that would delay approvals, potentially pushing some applicants well into the next fiscal year.
