Paramount announced at CinemaCon on April 16, 2026, that Top Gun 3 is officially in development, with a script “well underway,” studio co-head Josh Greenstein said.
The follow-up will reunite star-producer Tom Cruise with longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer; Ehren Kruger is reported to be attached to write.
No director, release date or full cast have been announced, though Paramount showed a promotional video narrated by Cruise filmed on its Los Angeles lot.
The confirmation comes as Paramount, now merged with Skydance, pledged theatrical-first commitments — including a guaranteed 45-day cinema window — and as parent company leadership outlines plans to ramp output.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022) grossed roughly $1.5 billion worldwide and is widely credited with helping revive theatrical attendance after the pandemic.
Reports at CinemaCon also highlighted broader studio strategy: David Ellison has pushed for an aggressive slate and is pursuing a $111 billion bid to acquire Warner Bros, moves that would reshape the studio’s film slate and distribution strategy.
