Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Madrid Open, organisers and the player confirmed on April 17, 2026, citing a lingering right-shoulder injury.
The 38-year-old Serb, a three-time Madrid champion and current world number four, posted on social media that he needs more time to recover and is âcontinuing my recovery in order to be back soon.â Djokovic has not played since losing to Britainâs Jack Draper in the Indian Wells fourth round and missed the Miami Open and Monte Carlo Masters with the same shoulder problem.
He has competed in only two tournaments so far this season and previously skipped Doha because of fatigue.
The Madrid tournament runs April 22âMay 3 with the draw scheduled for Monday; organisers said they hope to see him return soon.
Djokovic is due to target the French Open in Paris beginning May 24, where he would seek a record 25th Grand Slam title, but his participation there is now in doubt.
