South Korea has unveiled plans to revive its Formula 1 Grand Prix, proposing a financially viable five-kilometre street circuit in Incheon with officials aiming to stage a race as early as 2028.
Incheon city authorities say the event could attract up to 400,000 visitors across a three-day weekend and be linked to K-culture with concerts and other performances.
A preliminary economic analysis cited by local media forecasts construction and staging could generate billions in revenue, create about 4,800 jobs and include around 237.1 billion won in support from central and local government funds.
The Korean Grand Prix previously ran from 2010â2013 but was dropped amid high costs and limited local interest.
Organisers still face significant hurdles: securing central government approval, finding a private promoter, obtaining F1 and FIA acceptance and securing a calendar slot among a crowded global schedule.
Formula 1 did not immediately comment on the Incheon proposal.
