Golden State coach Steve Kerr signalled uncertainty about his future after the Warriors’ season ended with a 111-96 play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns on April 18, 2026.
Kerr, who completed his 12th season in San Francisco with a 604-353 record, is coaching on the final year of his deal and said he will take a week or two before meeting with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy to discuss next steps.
Kerr, a four-time NBA champion as coach and a Paris 2024 Olympic gold medal-winning coach for USA Basketball, embraced stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green after the game and told reporters “these jobs all have an expiration date.” The Warriors finished 37-45 this season amid injuries and inconsistency; Curry has one season left on an extension and Green holds a player option.
Both players publicly voiced support for Kerr returning.
The coach said he still loves coaching but acknowledged that a run can end and that any return would need alignment with the club’s plans.
