On April 18, 2026 the top-seeded Carolina Hurricanes opened their Eastern Conference first-round series with a 2-0 win over the Ottawa Senators at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C. Logan Stankoven scored in the second period and Taylor Hall added an insurance goal in the third as Frederik Andersen made 22 saves to record his sixth career Stanley Cup Playoff shutout.
Ottawa starter Linus Ullmark finished with 27 saves; a would-be Senators goal late in the third was overturned on video review.
The game was physical from the outset ā captains Brady Tkachuk and Jordan Staal dropped the gloves on the opening faceoff ā and combined for just 51 shots on goal as defense and goaltending dominated.
Ottawa lost defenseman Artem Zub to a second-period collision and did not return.
Carolina (53-22-7) holds home-ice advantage against the wild-card Senators (44-27-11). Game 2 is scheduled for Monday, April 20 (7:30 p.m.
ET) in Raleigh.
