April 19, 2026 — Luke Kennard scored a playoff-career high 27 points and LeBron James added 19 points with 13 assists as a short-handed Los Angeles Lakers defeated the visiting Houston Rockets 107-98 in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series in Los Angeles.
Kennard shot 9-of-13 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range after joining the Lakers at the trade deadline.
Deandre Ayton finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Marcus Smart contributed 15 points and eight assists.
The Rockets were without Kevin Durant, a late scratch with a bruised right knee; Alperen Şengün led Houston with 19 points while Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard scored 17 apiece and Jabari Smith Jr. had 16 with 12 rebounds.
Los Angeles shot 60.6% from the field and 52.6% from three, holding Houston to 37.6% overall.
The Lakers seized control late, outscoring the Rockets significantly in the fourth quarter to close out Game 1.
