SNK and Plaion Replai have announced the Neo Geo AES+, a modern recreation of the 1990s Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System, available to pre-order with shipments due on Nov. 12, 2026.
The console preserves the original cartridge slot and 15āpin controller port while adding HDMI up to 1080p, AV output for CRTs, BIOS-accessible DIP switches for language, display modes and overclocking, and permanent high-score saves via a rechargeable memory card.
Plaion says the system is not software emulation or FPGA-based but uses newly manufactured, reāengineered legacy ASIC chips to replicate the original hardware.
Launch packages include a standard black unit ($249.99), a 35thāanniversary white edition ($349.99) and a limited Ultimate Edition ($999.99) that bundles ten reissued cartridges (priced around $89.99 each), wired and wireless controllers and accessories.
Plaion and community sources indicate FPGA specialists Jotego and Furrtek contributed to the project, but some FPGA developers have raised concerns about ASIC immutability and the inability to patch hardware postāproduction.
Pre-orders are live across regions; Plaion will also sell additional accessories and future cartridge waves.

Social Summary
The community frames the Neo Geo AES+ as a nostalgia-driven, collector-focused product financed by deep-pocket interests rather than a mainstream revival. Expect initial sellouts and reseller activity, but the ASIC-based hardware limits post-release flexibility compared with FPGA alternatives, leaving long-term relevance uncertain.
