April 19 - Luke Kennard scored a career playoff-high 27 points and LeBron James had 19 points and 13 assists as a short-handed Los Angeles Lakers beat the visiting Houston Rockets 107-98 in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series in Los Angeles.
Kennard, making his seventh start since arriving from Atlanta at the trade deadline, was 9 of 13 from the floor and 5 of 5 from 3-point range, drilling three big triples in the fourth quarter.
Deandre Ayton added 19 points and 11 rebounds and Marcus Smart contributed 15 points and eight assists.
The Rockets were without star Kevin Durant (bruised right knee), who was ruled out shortly before tipoff after banging knees in practice; Alperen Sengun led Houston with 19 points, Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard each had 17, and Jabari Smith Jr. posted 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Los Angeles shot 60.6% overall and 52.6% from deep while holding Houston to 37.6% shooting.
The teams meet again for Game 2 in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
