Britain’s Got Talent concluded its 2026 auditions on April 18 with nine acts awarded golden buzzers — and the final pick by guest judge KSI ignited a storm of viewer criticism.
KSI, who joined judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden this series in place of Bruno Tonioli, pressed his golden buzzer for Japanese performer Mr Cherry after a routine that included opening a jar of pickles, crushing cans by sitting on them and opening wine bottles using his buttocks.
Simon Cowell hit his red buzzer during the act, but KSI’s decision sent Mr Cherry straight to the live semi-finals, which begin at the London Apollo on April 25.
ITV confirmed the semi-finals will run weekly with the fourth instalment moved to May 17 because of the Eurovision Song Contest; the final is scheduled for May 30, with a £250,000 prize and a Royal Variety Performance slot on offer.
The choice prompted heavy criticism on social platforms, with some viewers calling the decision “ridiculous” and questioning the show’s direction and family-friendly credentials.
