Singer and former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, 37, has disclosed she is experiencing ‘minor paralysis’ after a Bell’s palsy attack following surgery to remove three cysts from her face.
In an Instagram post on April 18, 2026, Tulisa said the operation and associated medications, combined with vomiting after the procedure, precipitated the flare-up that left one side of her face temporarily paralysed.
She said she had left steroids in Manchester but was able to obtain them within 24 hours and expects the short-term paralysis to last about a week.
Tulisa also revealed recent personal stresses including giving up smoking (two months smoke-free), cancelling an egg retrieval due to a low count, and learning that a close friend has been diagnosed with aggressive cancer.
The singer — who rose to fame with N-Dubz, scored a UK number one single, and served as an X Factor judge — said she is recovering in bed and emphasised authenticity about her health struggles.
Medical guidance notes that Bell’s palsy typically causes temporary facial weakness and that steroids can aid recovery, with many patients improving within months.
