Tottenham Hotspur on April 19 condemned “vile, dehumanising” racist abuse directed at defender Kevin Danso on social media after their 2-2 draw with Brighton, and said it had reported identified content to the Metropolitan Police, foreign authorities where necessary and social media platforms.
The 27-year-old Austria international, who played in the match during the Premier League’s No Room For Racism weekend, posted a defiant message saying the abuse “has no place in this game or anywhere” and that it would not define him.
Spurs described the behaviour as criminal, pledged to pursue the “strongest possible action” including club bans and legal prosecution, and said it works with specialist partners to identify perpetrators.
The Premier League backed the club’s stance and warned of sanctions.
The incident comes amid wider policing efforts this season to tackle online racial abuse of players, with previous arrests and investigations by UK football policing units into similar cases.
