📰 Full Story
Monaghan defeated neighbours Cavan 0-27 to 2-14 in an Ulster Senior Football Championship quarter-final at St Tiernach’s Park, Clones on 19 April 2026 to set up a semi-final with Derry on 2 May.
The Farneymen built a 0-15 to 0-8 half-time lead through dominant kick-out work and accurate long-range shooting, with Stephen Mooney and Rory Beggan each contributing five points and Dessie Ward adding 0-4.
Cavan hit back in the second half with goals from Tiarnan Madden and substitute Darragh Lovett, but Beggan produced a crucial penalty save from Paddy Lynch and made other important stops that kept Monaghan ahead.
Monaghan blooded several younger players — including debutants Cameron Dowd and Darragh McElearney — and finished with 10 different scorers.
Cavan finished the match with 14 men after Favour Shehu was sent off late on.
Manager Gabriel Bannigan described the win as a “big relief” after Monaghan’s difficult Division One league campaign and a heavy injury list.
