On April 19, 2026, a gunman killed eight children aged between one and 14 in Shreveport, Louisiana, in what police described as a domestic disturbance.
Authorities said a total of 10 people were shot across multiple nearby residences; two adult women and one teenager were wounded and at least two women were reported in critical condition.
Police said some of the dead children were related to the suspect.
After the shootings the man carjacked a vehicle and led officers on a pursuit into Bossier Parish, where officers fired on and killed him; investigators believe he acted alone.
The crime scene spanned at least three homes on the same block and investigators from the Shreveport and Louisiana state police are combing the area and seeking any photos or videos from the public.
Officials have not released the identities of victims or the suspect pending family notification.
News organisations noted this was the deadliest US mass shooting in more than two years, and officials described the community as in deep mourning.
