Mark Allen recovered from an “absolutely embarrassing” first-session display to beat China’s Zhang Anda 10-6 and move into the last 16 of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
The 40-year-old trailed 5-3 after Saturday’s opening session without a break over 50, but returned on Sunday to produce a run of high scoring that included clearances of 140, 109 and 129 and sealed victory with an 81.
Three-time champion Mark Williams also progressed, beating Polish debutant Antoni Kowalski 10-4; Kowalski was the first Polish player to qualify for the Crucible.
