Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan says he turned down informal citizenship and playing offers from India and Australia, according to his forthcoming memoir "Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom." Excerpts published April 19–20, 2026, recount an episode from the 2023 IPL season in which a "high‑ranking official" told him India could provide documents to enable him to live and play there.
Khan is quoted saying: "If I don’t play for my country, I won’t play for any other country either." The book, published by Bloomsbury India and priced at Rs 299, traces his rise from Nangarhar to international stardom; he was named the ICC’s Player of the Decade in 2020.
Rashid is currently playing in the 2026 IPL for the Gujarat Titans and was scheduled to face Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on April 20.
