U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) and his wife, Lisa Collis, announced on April 20, 2026, that their eldest daughter, Madison Warner, has died at age 36 after a decades-long battle with juvenile (Type 1) diabetes and other health issues.
The couple posted a joint statement on social media saying they are "heartbroken beyond words" and asking for privacy as they grieve.
Madison, the oldest of the Warners' three daughters, is survived by her two younger sisters, Gillian and Eliza.
Colleagues from both parties, including former Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin and senators across the political spectrum, offered condolences.
Warner, a senior member of the Senate who has served since 2009 and is seeking a fourth term in 2026, has previously cited his family's experience with Type 1 diabetes in advocacy for diabetes research and measures to make insulin more affordable.
The family did not release further details about Madison's health or the circumstances of her death.
