King Charles and other senior royals led a series of events in London on April 20–21 to mark what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday.
On April 20 the King and Queen Camilla toured “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style” at the King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace — the largest exhibition of the late monarch’s wardrobe with more than 300 items on display.
The family viewed design proposals for a national memorial in St James’s Park, including a bronze statue by Martin Jennings and a pavilion and bridge concept by Lord Foster’s team.
Princess Anne officially opened the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in Regent’s Park.
On April 21 the King released a filmed tribute calling the late sovereign his “darling Mama,” saying her steadiness through change remains an example and that much about today “may have troubled her.” The government-backed Queen Elizabeth Trust was announced with reported initial funding of £40 million to restore community spaces.
A Buckingham Palace reception for charities and centenarians concluded the commemorations.
Polling cited ahead of the centenary shows continued strong public affection for the late Queen.
