Nikola Jokic posted a 27-point, 16-assist, 12-rebound triple-double as the Denver Nuggets avoided elimination with a 125-113 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their first-round Western Conference series on April 28.
Jamal Murray added 24 points and reserve Spencer Jones supplied a surprise 20-point spark starting for an injured Aaron Gordon.
The win cuts Minnesotaâs series lead to 3-2 and sends the teams to Minneapolis for Game 6 on Thursday.
The Timberwolves remained shorthanded: All-Star Anthony Edwards (hyperextended left knee and bone bruise) is out week-to-week, Donte DiVincenzo suffered a ruptured right Achilles and has undergone surgery, and Naz Reid briefly left Game 5 with an ankle issue.
Denver also managed the game without Gordon (left calf tightness) and Peyton Watson (hamstring). Minnesota committed 25 turnovers and struggled defensively as Denver pulled away in the third quarter.
The series has been chippy â a late Game 4 scrap led to ejections and fines â and now shifts back to Minnesota with Denver needing consecutive wins to advance.
