Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8) and overlapping National Nurses Week (May 6-12) have prompted a wave of restaurant promotions across the United States this week, with chains offering freebies, discounts and catering deals to educators and health-care workers.
Prominent offers include Chipotle’s giveaway of up to $2 million in free entrées (about 200,000 e-gift cards across teacher and healthcare campaigns) that runs through May 12 with winners notified after May 13 and employment verification via ID.me.
Shake Shack is offering a free Single ShackBurger or Veggie Shack with purchase through May 12; Einstein Bros. is giving a free bagel and shmear on May 6; Whataburger is providing free breakfast to teachers on May 7; Potbelly, Buffalo Wild Wings, Insomnia Cookies, Ruby Tuesday, and dozens of regional chains are also running discounts, BOGO deals or free items.
Most offers require presentation of valid school or work ID and vary by location and date.
The National Education Association, noting National Teacher Day on May 5, has urged lawmakers to convert public appreciation into increased investment in educators.
