Utz Quality Foods on May 4-5, 2026 issued a voluntary nationwide recall of nine varieties of Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips after being notified that a seasoning containing dry milk powder sourced from California Dairies Inc. and supplied by a third party may contain salmonella.
Affected products — including Bayou Blackened Ranch, Salt & Vinegar, Big Cheezy, Maui Onion and Sour Cream & Onion in multiple bag sizes — carry best‑by dates in July and August 2026 and specific batch/UPC codes listed in the FDA notice.
Utz said the seasoning batches tested negative for salmonella prior to use but recalled the chips out of an abundance of caution after the ingredient supplier's recall.
The company and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration urged consumers not to eat the products, to discard or return them for a refund, and to contact Utz consumer relations (1‑877‑423‑0149) with questions.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled chips as of the announcement.
