Anthropic on May 6 announced a deal to use the full computing capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data centre in Memphis, Tennessee, gaining access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs and roughly 300 megawatts of power within a month.
The agreement, disclosed at Anthropic’s developer day in San Francisco, will immediately let the company raise limits for its Claude products—doubling Claude Code’s five‑hour windows for Pro, Max, Team and enterprise seats, removing peak‑hour throttling and increasing Opus API rate limits.
SpaceX (which merged with xAI earlier this year) says it has moved training to Colossus 2 and is leasing Colossus 1 capacity; Anthropic also said it remains in discussions about multi‑gigawatt orbital data centres.
The deal joins other large compute commitments Anthropic has announced with Amazon, Google/Broadcom, Microsoft/Nvidia and Fluidstack.
The Memphis facility has drawn local protest over gas‑turbine generators and air‑quality concerns, and the pact follows a recent public thaw between Elon Musk and Anthropic leadership.
