Xbox will roll out a refreshed boot-up animation and updated start-up sound to Xbox Series X|S consoles on May 13, Microsoft’s Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced on X on May 6.
The short firmware update replaces the white-on-black sequence with a glossy, renewed green Xbox logo and a slightly altered, familiar startup chime.
The change is part of a rapid series of brand and product moves since Sharma succeeded Phil Spencer in February, including restoring the ‘Xbox’ name from ‘Microsoft Gaming,’ cutting top-tier Xbox Game Pass prices, shelving the Copilot assistant, and making leadership hires from Microsoft’s CoreAI group.
Sharma has also signalled a willingness to “reevaluate” exclusivity strategy for first-party titles, and the boot-up refresh arrives ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7 and continued work on Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox platform.
Several outlets noted the sound remains recognisably similar to the current sequence; the update is framed as a small but symbolic customer-facing change amid broader organizational shifts.
