Atlanta-based rapper JaYy Wick, born Donald Anderson, 26, was arrested May 5 in metro Atlanta and charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting on April 25 at Panama City Beach, Florida, authorities said.
Bay County deputies say an 18-year-old was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Beach Access 83 around 11 p.m.; the victim was hospitalized.
Witnesses and the victim identified Anderson as the shooter, and deputies say a Glock and shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Law enforcement allege Anderson fled the beach and later performed at Vibez Night Club the same evening.
Detectives conducted surveillance in Atlanta and, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Atlanta and Clayton County police and Panama City Beach officers, arrested Anderson without incident and recovered a firearm.
He faces a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years to life if convicted; extradition to Florida is expected.
Sheriff Tommy Ford said the department will hold those accountable regardless of status.
Anderson rose to prominence on social media with the viral track “Pork Chop Sammich,” which has garnered millions of streams.
