📰 Full Story
Spain winger Nico Williams left Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga match against Valencia on May 10 with an apparent left hamstring problem, raising fresh concerns for the European champions less than a month before the World Cup.
Williams was substituted in the 36th-37th minute and later sat on the bench with a pad on his left hamstring as Valencia secured a 1-0 win at San Mamés.
Athletic did not immediately provide details.
The 23-year-old has been a regular for Spain (six goals in 30 caps since 2022) and has six goals and seven assists in 32 appearances for Athletic this season.
His knock compounds worries after Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal suffered a torn hamstring last month.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is due to name a 55-player preliminary squad this week as the side prepares to open its World Cup campaign in Group H — facing Cape Verde (June 15) and Saudi Arabia (June 21) in Atlanta and Uruguay (June 26) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
