A Wicklow man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after admitting sexual abuse of his two young cousins between 1986 and 1993.
Edward McGregor (55) of Weavers Square, Baltinglass, pleaded guilty last November to 15 offences against Frances McGregor and her sister, Caitriona Carr, who were aged between six and 13 when the assaults occurred.
Most of the offending took place at the sistersâ family home in Dublin 7, with some incidents at McGregorâs family home in Ballymun.
Judge Eileen Creedon imposed a 13-year headline sentence, reduced to 10 years for mitigation and with the final year suspended for two years, resulting in nine yearsâ custody; McGregor must also register as a sex offender.
The women waived anonymity and gave impact statements describing long-term trauma.
The case was delayed repeatedly â with trial dates adjourned in 2024 and 2025 â and the offences came to light in 2019 when one victim disclosed the abuse.
