One day after taping the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the comedian surprised viewers by guest-hosting Only in Monroe, a community-access programme in Monroe, Michigan.
Colbert’s hourlong appearance aired on Friday, May 22, 2026, after his CBS farewell the night before (May 21). The broadcast leaned into local jokes and featured Michigan-linked guests: Jack White acted as a volunteer “music director,” Jeff Daniels joined for on-air bits, and pre-taped cameos included Steve Buscemi and Eminem, who playfully signed off as the show’s “fire marshal” before Colbert and guests dismantled and burned the set.
Colbert FaceTimed Byron Allen, whose syndicated Comics Unleashed will fill the 11:35 p.m.
CBS slot.
The stunt picked up the thread of a line from Colbert’s final Late Show monologue, in which he quipped he might next be seen on Monroe public access.
The appearance drew widespread media coverage and online buzz, and the episode was later made available beyond the local broadcast via streaming clips.
