Epic Games on May 24‑25, 2026 gave the first public look at Unreal Engine 6 during the Rocket League Championship Series Paris Major, using a short in‑engine teaser of a rebuilt Rocket League as the showcase.
The footage, described by Epic as “captured real‑time in game,” highlighted higher‑fidelity reflections, ray‑tracing visuals and updated stadium assets.
Epic and Psyonix confirmed Rocket League will move off Unreal Engine 3 onto UE6, marking the game’s first major engine overhaul in more than a decade.
Epic has not published a release date, technical specs or an SDK; industry coverage and Epic comments stress that UE6 is being framed as both a graphics and ecosystem upgrade with interoperability across Fortnite, UEFN and other Epic platforms, and with planned features such as the Verse scripting language and improved multi‑threading.
Analysts and developers note potential benefits for live‑service games, creator tools and custom content, but also warn that UE5’s optimisation complaints mean performance, CPU efficiency and tooling for smaller studios will be scrutinised.
Media outlets expect preview builds or broader availability in the 2027–2028 timeframe, though Epic has not confirmed those timelines.
