South Australia Police on Feb. 5 declared the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont a major crime and said they have identified a suspect who resides at the family’s Oak Park Station near Yunta.
Gus vanished from the remote sheep property on Sept. 27, 2025 while reportedly playing outside the homestead.
Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said investigators have reviewed extensive searches — including multiple ground and aerial sweeps, use of AI to analyse imagery, Indigenous trackers, defence personnel and specialist divers — and have found no evidence he merely wandered off or was abducted.
Police said they uncovered “inconsistencies and discrepancies” in timelines given by family members; the person who withdrew cooperation after searches on Jan. 14–15 is now considered a suspect.
Authorities emphasised Gus’s parents are not suspects.
Investigators have executed search warrants and seized a car and motorcycle from the property; enquiries remain ongoing as police continue a forensic and witness-driven probe into the boy’s disappearance.
