Ronnie Bowman, a celebrated bluegrass singer, songwriter and longtime member of the Lonesome River Band, died on March 22, 2026, aged 64, after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle crash in Ashland City, Tennessee, on March 21.
Bowman was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville where he later died, his family said.
Born in North Carolina, his career spanned more than four decades: he fronted the Lonesome River Band in the 1990s, released acclaimed solo records including Cold Virginia Night, and won multiple International Bluegrass Music Association awards, including three Male Vocalist of the Year honors.
He also wrote hit songs for mainstream country artists â including Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney and Chris Stapleton (notably contributing to Stapletonâs Traveller and the ACM-winning âNobody to Blameâ) â and earned songwriting accolades.
Tributes poured in from across the bluegrass and country community, with peers praising his voice, generosity and influence.
The family asked for privacy as they grieve; further details about memorial plans were not immediately announced.
