Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season after nine trophy-laden years at Anfield.
The 33-year-old posted an emotional farewell video on social media on March 24, 2026 and the club confirmed an agreement has been reached to terminate the final year of the deal so he can depart on a free transfer.
Salah has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for Liverpool and helped the club win two Premier League titles, the Champions League and other major trophies.
He signed a two-year extension in April 2025 but will not complete the final year.
Liverpool said the timing was Salahâs choice so supporters could be informed and he could say goodbye properly; he remains focused on the remainder of the season, which could include FA Cup and Champions League ties and a final Premier League fixture on May 24.
Agent Ramy Abbas Issa said no destination is decided; widespread interest is expected with the Saudi Pro League, MLS and several European clubs all linked.
Financially, Liverpool will free up ~ÂŁ400,000 a week in wages but will receive no transfer fee.

The deal is widely portrayed as pragmatic: Salah secures freedom to maximise lateâcareer earnings and playing time, while Liverpool sheds an increasingly unsustainable wage and shortens transfer uncertaintyâmaking a wealthyâleague move (especially Saudi) more likely and shaping summer transfer strategy.
