Darrell “Dash” Crofts, one half of 1970s soft‑rock duo Seals & Crofts and the voice on hits such as “Summer Breeze,” “Diamond Girl” and “Get Closer,” has died at 87.
Family members and longtime producer Louie Shelton confirmed his death, saying Crofts died in hospital in Austin, Texas, after heart problems and complications related to recent heart surgery.
Crofts and childhood friend Jim Seals formed the duo in 1969 after stints with groups including The Champs.
Their 1972 album Summer Breeze became a breakthrough, driving the title single and other Top 10 hits and earning multi‑platinum sales; the pair amassed multiple gold and platinum records and continued to record and reunite intermittently, releasing a final album, Traces, in 2004.
Both men were notable adherents of the Baháʼí faith, which informed some of their songs and public statements; their 1974 single “Unborn Child” provoked controversy at the time.
Crofts is survived by his wife and children.
