HBO released the first teaser for its long‑awaited Harry Potter TV reboot this week, unveiling Dominic McLaughlin as Harry and introducing an ensemble including Arabella Stanton, Alastair Stout, John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
The two‑minute teaser, unveiled during HBO Max’s U.K. launch in London on March 25–26, 2026, confirms the series — written by Francesca Gardiner and directed in part by Mark Mylod — will premiere at Christmas 2026.

Discovery and HBO say the plan is seven seasons, one book per season, with an overall production schedule spanning about a decade; Hans Zimmer is reported to be attached as composer.
Early reactions were sharply divided: many praised the fidelity to the books and the production scale, while others criticised the teaser’s visual similarity to the original films and its darker tone.
The casting of Paapa Essiedu as Snape has drawn racist online abuse and death threats, prompting HBO to boost security and provide social‑media training for cast and crew.
The author J.K. Rowling remains an executive producer and her controversial views on gender have added to the debate around the reboot’s reception.
