Mohamed Salah confirmed this week he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing to a close a nine‑year spell in which he scored 255 goals and won numerous major trophies.
The 33‑year‑old announced his departure in an emotional video; club and player have agreed terms that will allow him to leave as a free agent despite a contract running into 2027.
Reports say Salah has foregone a reported £20m loyalty payment and will free up roughly £400,000 a week in wages for the club.
Teammates including Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade‑Chamberlain paid tribute; former manager Jürgen Klopp called him “irreplaceable” and warned against chasing a like‑for‑like replacement, adding he could play on into his late 30s.
Media and transfer outlets have linked Salah to moves to the Saudi Pro League (Al Ittihad, Al Qadsiah), a possible short return to Roma, and other big‑club or MLS speculation, while Liverpool are being tipped to target players such as Michael Olise, Yan Diomande, Jarrod Bowen or Juventus’ Conceição.
An academic study cited also credits Salah with reducing Islamophobic incidents among Liverpool supporters since his arrival.
