Jon Favreau previewed the final trailer and the opening 15–17 minutes of The Mandalorian and Grogu during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on April 16–17, ahead of the film’s May 22 theatrical release.
The sequence shown opens with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu attacking a group of Imperial sympathizers on a snowy world, commandeering AT-ST/AT-AT walkers and ending with a New Republic debrief led by Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Ward.
Jeremy Allen White appears as Rotta the Hutt; Martin Scorsese has a brief voice cameo.
Favreau said the film includes extensive large-format material — “over 49 minutes” of sequences expanded for IMAX — and combines practical sets, stop-motion creature work and miniatures with modern VFX. The film, written by Favreau and Dave Filoni and scored by Ludwig Göransson, marks Star Wars’ return to cinemas after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
Early reactions from the CinemaCon audience highlighted big-action moments and nostalgia, while some critics who saw preview footage noted uneven tone and heavy CGI use.
Tickets go on sale following the presentation.
