Colorado defeated Los Angeles 2-1 in Game 1 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series at Ball Arena in Denver on Sunday.
Artturi Lehkonen opened the scoring in the second period and Logan OâConnor â playing his first meaningful games after hip surgery last year â scored the winner in the third, his first goal in more than a year.
Scott Wedgewood, making his first career Stanley Cup playoff start, stopped 24 shots and was credited with the victory; Anton Forsberg made 28 saves in his postseason debut for the Kings.
Artemi Panarin cut the deficit to 2-1 with a late power-play goal but Los Angeles could not find an equalizer.
The contest grew physical late, producing roughing penalties and a combined 84 hits.
Nathan MacKinnon assisted on Lehkonenâs goal, giving him 32 career Game 1 points for the franchise.
Colorado will host Game 2 on Tuesday.
