Eddie Osei-Nketia sprinted 100 metres in a wind-assisted 9.84 seconds at the Mt.
SAC Relays in Walnut, California, on April 18, 2026, a time faster than any Australian has run in any conditions but ineligible for record purposes because of an illegal tailwind (reports cited a reading above the 2.0 m/s limit, reported as +2.8 m/s). Osei-Nketia, 24, who formally switched his allegiance from New Zealand to Australia in December 2025, finished second to American Jelani Watkins (9.82w). The run eclipses Patrick Johnsonâs 2003 all-conditions Australian mark and underscores a recent surge in Australian sprinting alongside Lachlan Kennedy and Gout Gout.
Osei-Nketia holds New Zealand national marks from earlier in his career and has been named in Australiaâs 4x100m squad for the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone.
Although the time will not be ratified as an official national record, it strengthens his case for individual selection at forthcoming championships and highlights the depth Australia is building in the short sprints and relay pool ahead of major global events.
