Juraj Slafkovský scored three power-play goals, including the winner 1:22 into overtime, to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of their first-round NHL playoff series in Tampa on Sunday night.
The No. 3-seeded Canadiens took a sudden-death lead when Slafkovský fired a slap shot past Andrei Vasilevskiy after a late regulation penalty on Tampa Bay.
Montreal rookie goalie Jakub Dobeš made 20 saves.
Brandon Hagel had two goals and Darren Raddysh added one for the Lightning; Jake Guentzel set up multiple scores (three assists) and Nikita Kucherov added two assists.
Josh Anderson also scored for Montreal, with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield each recording assists.
The result hands Montreal early momentum and hands Tampa Bay another frustrating postseason home mark — Tampa has lost multiple recent home playoff games and remains winless in several recent overtime playoff appearances.
