The NBA opened its 2026 playoffs with decisive results across several series on April 19-20.
The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Phoenix Suns 119-84 at the Paycom Center, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderâs 25 points (5-of-18 shooting, 15-of-17 free throws), seven assists and two blocks; Jalen Williams added 22 and Chet Holmgren 16.
Oklahoma City, which posted a 64-win regular season, led by as many as 39.
In the East, the Boston Celtics dominated the Philadelphia 76ers 123-91 as Jayson Tatum (25 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists) and Jaylen Brown (26) combined for 51.
Top-seeded Detroit stumbled at home, falling 112-101 to the Orlando Magic despite Cade Cunninghamâs 39 points; Paolo Banchero scored 23 and Franz Wagner 19 for Orlando.
The San Antonio Spurs also hosted the Portland Trail Blazers, with rookie Victor Wembanyama set to make his playoff debut.
These opening games set early momentum in several best-of-seven series and highlighted both the Thunderâs title-defence credentials and the volatility of the Eastern Conference.
