Jordan Peterson is suffering a relapse of akathisia linked by his daughter to an “old neurological injury” she says was induced by prior psychiatric medication use, according to a video update shared on social media in mid‑April 2026.
Mikhaila Peterson said her father experienced a flare last summer after what the family believes was mould exposure and chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), compounded by stress from recent bereavements, relocation and the sale of the family home.
She said the episode was complicated by pneumonia and sepsis and that Peterson — who has previously spoken publicly about benzodiazepine dependence and withdrawal — has not taken psychiatric medication for several years.
The daughter described months of severe daily distress before doctors reached the current diagnosis and said his condition is now improving as they avoid triggers and pursue recovery.
Mikhaila said she will not provide further updates while the family focuses on healing, and has launched a resource site to raise awareness of what she terms psych‑med injuries.
