Mike Myers made a rare, highly theatrical appearance at the AFI Life Achievement Awards in Los Angeles on April 18, 2026, arriving onstage in full Shrek makeup and prosthetic ears to honour longtime collaborator Eddie Murphy.
Murphy received the American Film Instituteâs lifetime achievement prize at a star-studded ceremony attended by comedy and film luminaries including Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Jennifer Hudson; Spike Lee presented the award.
Myers, who voices Shrek in the DreamWorks franchise, delivered remarks praising Murphyâs work as Donkey and their on-screen partnership, saying Donkey was a âmasterpieceâ and crediting Murphy with much of the seriesâ success.
The moment underscored the enduring commercial and cultural clout of the Shrek franchise â which spawned multiple features and spin-offs â and comes as the property prepares new entries (Shrek 5 has been reported in development) and an AFI tribute special that will air on Netflix on May 31.
