Josh Hutcherson has responded to online backlash from fans of Taylor Swift after saying last year that he was "definitely not a Swiftie." In a GQ interview published April 20–21, 2026, the 33-year-old actor recalled viral comments from a December i-D magazine clip in which he noted he respected Swift but did not listen to her music.
Hutcherson said the reaction — ranging from personal insults to demands to "destroy him" — reinforced his reluctance to be active on social media.
He pointed to the difficulty of maintaining privacy and the professional need to "disappear into characters," warning that becoming a meme can undermine audience immersion.
The actor also faced scrutiny after photos showed him in a VIP section at Swift’s Eras Tour in 2024; fans questioned VIP access amid high demand for tickets.
Hutcherson, who has longstanding ties to Swift through The Hunger Games soundtrack song "Safe and Sound," said the episode exemplified why he keeps his online presence minimal.
He is due to appear in a cameo in The Hunger Games: Sunrise, scheduled for release in November 2026.
