At the 130th Boston Marathon, two competitors stopped their own races to help a struggling runner across the finish line in a widely shared moment of sportsmanship.
Ajay Haridasse, 21, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, repeatedly fell just past the 26-mile mark and was unable to stand.
Aaron Beggs, 40, from Bangor in Northern Ireland, pulled Haridasse up and, when he struggled to stay upright, Brazilian runner Robson De Oliveira, 36, joined to support him.
The trio crossed Boylston Street together; official times published by outlets showed De Oliveira at 2:44:26, Haridasse 2:44:32 and Beggs 2:44:36.
Spectators captured the finish on video and clips have attracted millions of views on social media.
Organisers praised the running communityâs supportive spirit; race medical staff treated the runners afterwards.
The incident drew broad media coverage and social praise while underscoring the physical toll of elite and mass-participation marathons.
