An interim report from the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, led by former High Court judge Virginia Bell, has delivered 14 recommendations after the 14 December 2025 Bondi Beach mass shooting that killed 15 people.
The commission said a Jewish community security group had warned police the security threat level was "HIGH" ahead of Hanukkah events and requested policing assistance; NSW officers attended but were reportedly told they did not need to remain for the entire Chanukah by the Sea festival.
The report urged governments to finalise a nationally consistent National Firearms Agreement and prioritise a proposed national gun buyback, extend policing procedures used for Jewish high holy days to other high-risk Jewish festivals, review joint counter-terrorism teams and consider making the counter-terrorism coordinator role full-time.
Five recommendations remain classified for national security reasons.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the National Security Committee agreed to implement recommendations relevant to the commonwealth.
Public hearings are scheduled to begin in early May and the final report is due by the first anniversary of the attack.
