General Motors said April 28–30, 2026 it is rolling out Google’s Gemini generative-AI assistant to roughly four million U.S. vehicles via over‑the‑air updates.
The phased upgrade targets 2022 model‑year and newer Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC vehicles equipped with Google built‑in and replaces the existing Google Assistant.
Owners must be connected to OnStar, signed into the vehicle Google Play Store, set US English as the assistant language and opt in.
Gemini brings conversational, context‑aware interactions for navigation, messaging, entertainment and trip planning — including multi‑stop, fuel‑efficient routing and playlist or podcast summarization — and integrates with in‑vehicle apps like Spotify, YouTube and streaming services.
GM said the rollout will take several months and initially support US English, with additional markets and a vehicle‑specific, OnStar‑tuned AI assistant planned later this year.
The announcement coincides with GM highlighting a Super Cruise hands‑free driving milestone and arrives amid ongoing scrutiny of GM’s data‑sharing practices and a pending Federal Trade Commission consent order.
